The five most affordable Rolex models in the UK right now
Last updated: 16/8/2026
This article forms one of our regular updates on the Rolex watch market. The data is from the first half of 2026.
Like all numbers quoted on rolex-collection-journal.com, our data includes only watches actually sold in the UK by professional dealers that are in good (or better) condition, and complete with original box and papers. Nothing outside those criteria is included.
All data is taken from our own in-house market monitoring tool, and independently verified.
Crucially, this is not a list of one-off bargains that you won’t be able to find again. These are the five Rolex models that were consistently available at the lowest prices in the first half of 2026.
Most affordable overall: Rolex Oyster Precision
10th percentile sold price: £2,450 | Median sold price: £3,895. Skip to detail.
Five of the other most affordable options?
Second most affordable (and most affordable Rolex with a date function): Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date
10th percentile sold price: £4,406 | Median sold price: £5,445. Skip to detail.
Third most affordable (and most affordable Rolex with variety): Rolex Air-King (pre-2016 model)
10th percentile sold price: £4,279 | Median sold price: £5,194. Skip to detail.
Fourth most affordable (and most affordable timeless/collectable piece) Rolex Explorer in steel
10th percentile sold price: £5,995 | Median sold price: £6,950. Skip to detail.
Fifth most affordable (and most affordable recent Rolex): Rolex Air King (post-2016 model)
10th percentile sold price: £6,200 | Median sold price: £6,950. Skip to detail.
Honourable mention (Editor’s recommendation) – Rolex Datejust in steel, reference number 1601
10th percentile sold price: estimated £~4,999 | Median sold price: estimated ~£6,750. Note that this specific Datejust reference number is rare to find with both it’s box and papers. Skip to detail.
1) Most affordable Rolex overall: the Oyster Precision

10th percentile sold price: £2,450 | Median sold price: £3,895.
Features: waterproof, manual wind
Material: steel
Still in production? No – superceded by the Oyster Perpetual
Rolex watches priced sub-£3,000 are rare. And rarer still when found at that price point with their box, official papers, and in good (or better condition).
In fact, Rolex Oyster Precision watches matching this condition made up less than 0.1% of UK Rolex watch sales in 2025.
So not only is the Oyster Precision one of the most affordable Rolex available, it’s also one of the rarest found as a complete set. This makes it exceptional. It’s not that the Rolex Oyster Precision was made in low numbers – far from it. It’s just that few complete sets survive.
If you want to acquire an affordable, heirloom quality timepiece with it’s documents and box – this is the obvious option.
Stylistically. Nobody can fail to like the Rolex Oyster Precision. It’s just that few will truly love it.
White it’s style and design hold up quite well (to the untrained eye it could belong to any era), there are a few things that give it away as being a little dated. It’s long-discontinued, and the 34mm unisex sizing make it a little smaller than modern Rolex watches, which start at 36mm for unisex sizes. The hour markers and hands are also of a more traditional style.
All in all it offers exceptional value for money and a a solid place to put your money where you can enjoy it, and easily liquidate it when necessary.
2) Second most affordable Rolex: The Oyster Perpetual Date

10th percentile sold price: £4,406 | Median sold price: £5,445
Material: at this price, probably steel. Some gold-plated.
Features: waterproof, date window.
Still in production? No – superseded by the Rolex Datejust.
Representing 0.7% of 2025 UK dealer sales, the Oyster Perpetual Date remains a quiet but attractive option for an affordable Rolex set.
While also long-discontinued (three of the pieces on this five-watch list are), this piece can masquerade as something much newer thanks to its stylistic similarity to the Rolex Datejust.
The main difference between the two? The unisex Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date is 34mm size, where the still-in-production unisex Rolex Datejust forces buyers to either size down to 31mm (ladies) or size up to 36mm (unisex).
Note this is the only one of 2026’s five cheapest Rolex models to have a “complication” (ie do anything other than simply tell the time – in this case present the date).
3) Third most affordable Rolex: the Air-King (pre-2016 model)

10th percentile sold price: £4,279 | Median sold price: £5,194
Material: at this price, probably steel. Very occasionally gold-plated.
Features: waterproof.
Still in production? No – the post-2016 Rolex Air-King bears no resemblance to previous generations.
The pre-2016 Rolex Air-King offers by far the most variety of dial colours and styles compared to any of the other four cheapest Rolex models.
You’ll find a variants of the pre-2016 Rolex Air-King in black, white, and any primary colour. The dial markers can be stick-style, Roman numerals, or a combination of sticks with numbers.
Each combination can feel like a radically different watch, meaning two mechanically identical pre-2016 Air-Kings can feel feel in turn either very dressy or flat-out sporty.
There’s little to no variety within the other models in this list, so if you have a very specific vision of the kind of watch Rolex you want to buy (while also being extremely budget-limited), then this model has to be the place to start your search.
Aesthetically, it still holds up to the untrained eye despite being discontinued. Certain combinations closely resemble models still in production such as the Explorer, or the Oyster Perpetual.
4) Fourth most affordable Rolex: The Explorer in steel

10th percentile sold price: £5,995 | Median sold price: £6,950
Material: Steel.
Features: waterproof.
Still in production? Yes.
Rolex have entrenched the Explorer (or “Explorer one” as it’s sometimes called) as one of the most untouchable pieces in their catalogue. It’s part of the brand’s heritage and DNA, and it’s the only piece on this list to be widely loved and respected by watch enthusiasts and collectors.
The design has barely changed since it was rolled out in the 1950s as a piece modelled on the specification of the Rolex provided to Sir Edmund Hiliary for his historic Everest expedition.
Not only has the basic design barely changed, but the line hasn’t evolved either. It’s available with one dial colour (black) and one dial style (stick markers, numbers at 3,6 and 9). Trust me, it dresses up just as well with black tie as it does with mountaineering gear.
What has changed is the size of the piece. It’s available in sizes 36mm, 39mm, and 41mm. At this low price point, you are likely looking at the 36mm unisex size.
If you want a truly timeless Rolex that will sail through the changing tides of taste, but want to keep price to a minimum, then this has to be the piece for you.
5) Fifth most affordable Rolex: The post-2016 Air-King

10th percentile sold price: £6,200 | Median sold price: £6,950
Material: Steel.
Features: waterproof.
Still in production? Yes.
Despite every watch on this list having to be sold in good condition and with original box and papers, four out of the five pieces are realistically going to be older at these price points. In fact, three out of the five on this list are outright discontinued (Oyster Precision, Oyster Perpetual Date, and Pre-2016 Air-King).
However, if having the freshest and latest thing is important to you – then the post-2016 Rolex Air-King is your best bet. Following that year’s radical re-design, the Air-King now presents a decidedly sporty look, which is perfect for anyone looking to wear a Rolex as a casual daily piece.
This watch is a “marmite” piece for that very reason. Many people buy a Rolex because it’s special, aspirational, and classy – not because they want a rough-and-tumble daily wearer.
However for just as many people, this is where the appeal lies. Wear this, and there’s no mistaking you can afford a Rolex that’s fresh and modern, and that you’re not too precious about it.
Note that someone who prefers a chunkier or more imposing style, the post-2016 Air-King is the biggest piece on this list (only available as a 40mm size).
Honourable mention: The Rolex Datejust with specific reference number #1601 (steel)

A steel Rolex Datejust can be one of the most affordable modern pieces, and is universally the most popular. Sales of Datejusts made up 23.5% of all UK Rolex sales in 2025, with steel variants comprising 14.5% of them.
However, with a 10th percentile sold price of £6,495 and a median sold price of £9,250, it didn’t make the cut for this list.
That said, there’s one very specific generation and reference number of steel Datejust I’d like to bring your attention to, and it’s my strong recomendation to purchase for anyone looking for the best possible Rolex at the cheapest possible price.
In 2025 the Steel Rolex Datejust with the specific reference number “1601” was often found for sale in the UK in good condition with a full set of box and papers. And it’s price? Often under £4,000 for the 36mm unisex variant with the sought after “jubilee” strap and “fluted” style bezel.
This price would put it #2 on this list in terms of overall affordability.
And what’s more, to the untrained eye, the specification of the #1601 Rolex Datejust is almost indistinguishable from brand new variants hot off the factory line Three times the price.
Only a subtle change in the “stick” dial markers gives the age away (the 2026 version uses fatter luminous hour markers compared to the thinner ones on the #1601 reference).
But good luck finding one with it’s original box and papers! It’s common for there to be none for sale in the UK.
Final thoughts
